GEOTAB

Enhancing fleet safety and risk management by providing a comprehensive, data-driven approach to evaluating and mitigating risks and safety concerns.

A tool designed to empower fleet managers to efficiently evaluate their safety performance against industry peers and enable them to take targeted actions.

Role: Lead Designer | Duration: 6 Months

I worked cross-functionally and collaboratively with Data Scientists, Product Manger, Engineer and external design team to understand the business objectives, the user needs, the data as well as how CRI would fit into the rest of Geotabs fleet safety ecosystem in the future.

Focus areas

DESIGN FOCUS AREAS

  • Displaying and giving insight to customers about their fleets as a whole

Overall Fleet Metrics

  • Providing insights to customers about their fleets categorized by specific event types

Fleet Metrics by Event Type

Fleet Metrics by Groups

  • Groups are a way for organizations to manage their fleets. Providing insights at a group level allows for more flexibility.

Vehicle Level Details

  • Providing a dashboard look at a specific vehicle history in terms of safety to allow organizations to pinpoint problem areas

Fleet managers and organizations need a way to assess their safety performance so that they are able to make actionable choices to improve.

SIDEBAR CONCEPTS

ANNOTATION AND MARKUPS

Due to the nature and complexity of this project, it needed to be clearly annotated. Each feature and element of this project was highly annotated throughout making it easier to communicate with stakeholders and development. Markups were also used throughout the project to ensure clarity on certain aspects to move forward.

MVP Feedback

A priority for this MVP was to collect feedback from users so we could continue to collect data and improve. Creating a form for the users to fill out and creating a path that would enable them to successfully fill out the form was imperative.

Form Focus Points:

  • easy entrance, easy exit

  • content needed to be concise and digestible

  • radio buttons and checkboxes for simplicity

  • no long form answers required

  • split the form into steps so it wouldn’t feel overwhelming

RESULTS AND FEEDBACK

This was an extremely challenging and rewarding process. It was a unique experience working on an MVP with the main focus of obtaining customer feedback and providing a baseline for a future product. It was a data extensive project and I learned so much about data collection, data analysis, organizing data and table design etc.

75% of users that interacted with the experiment provided feedback.

Challenges

  • Aggregated Data Limitations

  • Research

  • Short Timeline

Successes

  • Collected a lot of customer feedback

  • Proved Value in Concept

  • Deep understanding for data
