Femmebought is a women-owned business directory aimed at empowering and promoting female entrepreneurs. The website needed a refresh and a clean look to help promote engagement and gain interest.

Project Overview:
Role
UX Designer
The Problem
Femmebought was struggling to gain traction and retain it’s value amongst the female entrepreneur community. Signups and donations were on the downfall. Users were having difficulty navigating the website and the directory was not working well leading to a decrease in both consumers and entrepreneurs cancelling their subscriptions.
The Opportunity
To rebrand and reinvent the femmebought website to drive traffic, attract attention and spread the femmebought values; A place for women, created by women to empower women.
Design Focus Areas
1. Navigation
Simplifying the navigation would make it easier and faster for users visiting the site to find the information they were looking for. Better information hierarchy = less abandoned pages
2. Universal Filters
Adding the universal filter feature, will make it easier for users to search for certain stores or products, which will decrease the amount of user frustration
3. Call to Action
Better call-to-action means more engagement and an increase in memberships and subscribers. Users will be more likely to click on buttons, links, forms when they aren’t convoluted.
Navigation
Creating a site map of the existing site helped me visualize the navigation. It became clear that there was little organization with the pages and sub pages and the overall architecture of the site needed an overhaul to simplify the experience..
Brainstorm Questions
How are users going to navigate through the site - reworking the information architecture
How easily will they be able to find the business they are looking for - reworking the directory
How can we obtain more members - reworking call-to-actions
How can we get people to sign up to our newsletter / spread the word about femmebought

Conclusion
Unfortunately, covid delayed the build and launch of the new website. That being said, this was a really fun project. It was a unique experience working 1:1 with CEO and sole stakeholder. I was really engaged in femmeboughts mission and values so I felt this project was more personal.
I enjoyed the fact that this was a highly visual project and it was a great opportunity to work a little bit more closely with the branding aspects of design. Since this was a freelance project, it was also a great opportunity to manage my own time and get a little experience with project management.
